the painting process

In the next few weeks, I will be adding more photos to show the materials and process I use to create paintings in the tradition of the Old Masters.

a recent commission

I've been working on a commissioned oil , 48" x 60" in size, for a private home . The subject is the client's home and horse farm in southwestern Pennsylvania.

I first painted a small oil study during the summer months and I've been working from that as I paint this larger version.

The focus of the painting is determined by my use of light . This scene depicts an afternoon light when the clouds are up which creates all kinds of beautiful light effects in the middle distance and far distance.
